Veeam Ready: All-In-One (Virtualized)

Cyber-resilient backup, certified as one system, not assembled from two.

TrueNAS is the first storage platform certified under Veeam's newest Ready Appliance category: All-In-One (Virtualized). Instead of sitting behind the Veeam Software Appliance as a repository target, TrueNAS Enterprise hardware runs it directly. One hardened backup infrastructure, one box, one certification.

As of September 18, 2026, Veeam lists exactly two systems under All-In-One (Virtualized). Both are TrueNAS.

What All-In-One (Virtualized) means

All-In-One (Virtualized) is Veeam's certification category for hardware built to run the Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) as a guest virtual machine, not just host a backup repository behind a separate Veeam server. On TrueNAS, that means the backup server and the backup storage are certified together, on one device.

One hardened appliance, running where your data already lives

The Veeam Software Appliance packages everything a Veeam server needs. TrueNAS gives it a home built for the job.

The Veeam Software Appliance

A backup server you don't hand-build

The VSA is a hardened Linux image that packages Veeam Backup & Replication, a backup proxy, and a hardened repository role into one deployable guest. You skip building a Veeam server from scratch on Windows or Linux, and you get automatic software updates and secure defaults from first boot. Fewer chances for the misconfigurations that turn into ransomware incidents.

On TrueNAS

Backed by OpenZFS, not just virtualized

The VSA runs as a VM under the TrueNAS Data Hypervisor, the platform's built-in virtualization layer. Its boot disk and backup repository are both zvols, OpenZFS native block volumes, so the appliance inherits the same self-healing checksums and integrity verification protecting every other workload on the system. Deploy the VM, assign network settings, and configure jobs and policies through the standard Veeam web console.

What changes when the backup server and the repository are one certified system

A traditional Veeam deployment asks you to size, secure, and certify two systems separately. The All-In-One path certifies one.

Traditional Veeam stack vs. VSA on TrueNAS
Traditional Veeam stack VSA on TrueNAS
Backup Server Separate Windows or Linux host to size, purchase, harden, and patch Hardened Veeam Software Appliance VM
Repository Often a separate NAS, SAN, or disk shelf Backup-storage zvol on the same TrueNAS system
Certification Storage and backup server certified separately, if at all Certified together as Veeam Ready, All-In-One (Virtualized)

Why teams are consolidating onto one certified device

Fewer systems to secure. Fewer certifications to chase. More control over recovery when it counts.

Fewer boxes, one certification

All-In-One (Virtualized) is built for single-site, appliance-minded teams who don't want to run and patch a second server just to host Veeam. Fewer boxes to manage, and one certification to point to during security or procurement review, not two vendors' worth of paperwork.

Resilience built into the storage layer

A separate physical Veeam server means a separate spares kit, redundant power, and a recovery plan for its own disk corruption. On TrueNAS, OpenZFS checksums protect the appliance's own data the same way they protect your backups. If the VM faults, TrueNAS restarts it instead of asking you to rebuild a server.

Faster recoveries, not just faster backups

TrueNAS can serve as the high-performance platform behind Veeam Live Restore, presenting file or block storage to hypervisors alongside the VSA. That shortens the path back to production, not just the backup window.

A checkbox procurement can actually verify

Procurement teams check Veeam Ready listings before a vendor gets near an RFP. All-In-One (Virtualized) status is something they can verify directly on Veeam's site, not a claim they have to take on faith.

Certified TrueNAS hardware

Veeam's Ready Appliance program requires passing every compatibility and functional test, plus extensive performance testing for backup and restore operations. Two TrueNAS lines have cleared it.

A traditional stack needs a separate backup server and a separate repository, each certified on its own if at all. The VSA on TrueNAS puts both on one Enterprise system, certified together.
