Hi All

Need some advice please. One of my Volumes are coming up with the below error. On investigation I found one of the drives has 3 CKSUM errors.
Did some reading and found other threads with the same issue and trouble shooting they did. Trouble shooting I did below

1. Did mem test with Memtest86 no errors
2. Replaced Sata cable, did scrub, problem came back 3 errors 24k
3. Moved drive to another SATA port and Power cable, cleared error, did scrub again, problem still there 3 errors 24k

The problem problem moves with the drive and always 3 errors 24k. The smart report is not showing anything wrong with the drive.

I am also getting this error when its was ada1 I moved it to ada3 to test if the port was the problem?

So what do I do now? is the drive faulty? Do I need to worry. I see the drive is still in Limited Warranty with WD. I suspect they won't replace the drive since I
can't really prove there is something wrong with the drives other than the 3 crc errors.

Would you please use code tags, so that it's a bit easier to read?

What is the disk controller? How are these drives connected to power, and did you change that when you moved ports?

My first guess is that the drive is not at fault here. I will also guess that chances are high this is a read glitch; the data on the disk is correct. It is getting garbled on the way to the CPU during read. Do these errors only turn up during scrub (high read load)?

Also, you should schedule SMART short test on all of your drives at least every two weeks.

...or even much more frequently--I'd suggest more like every 1-3 days.

Short tests do occasionally find something, so I recommend running them daily (except for long test days).

Hi All

These only happens during high reads. Always on scrubs and happened ones during a big copy session. My smart tests are scheduled, ones a week for short and twice a month for long.

The motherboard has 3 controllers 8 ports, 2 Intel controllers and one Marvel. This particular Volume is split over 2 of them 2 drives on the Intel controller and the drive giving the 3 errors is now on the Marvell controller. I changed power cables as well when I changed the ports.

The drive was on one of the Intel controllers when I moved it.

If you've changed controllers, SATA cable, power cable (and the rail it fed from?), then I would attempt the RMA.

Yip, done all that. I have done another scrup earlier today and it reported no errors. Busy doing another one now. Let's see what it does.

So scrub finished last night, errors are back. same drive, 3 errors 24k. Going to try RMA not sure if it will work since I can't really proof there is anything wrong with the drive.
