Any new developments on this post? I have a similar issue but I wanted to do as much research as possible before I post.

What do you mean "new developments"? Nobody has developed a magical tool that fixes dying disks, nor is that likely to happen.
This is all very basic very well-documented stuff. Between the manual and the resources section there isn't much room for error.
