I have a possible bug. I can duplicate this on 2 different freenas boxes on 9.2.1.5 and .6. Photoshop version CS5 on both OSX 10.6 and 10.9

open a .psd file off a SMB share
make a change and save it
without closing it, make another change and save it.
The file will delete off the share and you will be given an error that it doesn't exist.

a screen video is attached as well as the .psd file i was using.

That's pretty impressive. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

Is SMB2 set as the max protocol?
Can you post the FreeNAS box specs?

Sounds like an OS X bug. Can you try AFP and see if it happens there?

thats why i made the video.

SMB3 is set as max protocol

specs on the freenas are 32GB ram, quad core Xeon processor, supermirco board, 4 4gb drives (i can also duplicate it on my small test machine thats 8gb ram, quad core i7)

Try setting max protocol to SMB2. SMB3 has been found to be somewhat experimental and because of this 9.2.1.6 defaults to SMB2.

an older mac wouldn't be able to communicate in SMB3 though so would that still be an issue just having it enabled?

my test machine that i can still duplicate it on is running 9.2.1.6 so it is on SMB2

Well, if you do an upgrade it will keep your old setting. If it was set to SMB3 (which 9.2.1 through 9.2.1.5 were set to) then it might still be SMB3.

gotcha. I'll go in and change it and resave and try it again.

changed it to SMB2 on both servers, still doing it. I have found something new though. I can create a new .psd file to the shared directory and everything is fine with it. I can edit, save, edit, save and no issues. Ive also found that some of the .psd files i have will not delete on save, but it crashes adobe. It will hang with the spinning wheel until i force close it.

Both CS6 and CS5 have this issue. CS3 on the other hand, works fine. But im beginning to think that the files were originally created in CS3 and that might be an issue.

Yeah, I asked someone about this and they think this is not directly FreeNAS' problem but is some kind of problem between Samba4 and the adobe products you are using. If files were randomly deleting themselves this issue would not be reported by a single persom. ;)
