TrueNAS Connect is TrueNAS’s browser-based management service — it lets you deploy, monitor, and update TrueNAS systems from one dashboard instead of logging into each one separately. Eight months after launch, TrueNAS Connect is on its way to a three-tier structure:
Foundation is completely free and covers up to 2 systems, with a web-based installer that simplifies getting a new TrueNAS system running.
Plus launched in late January and is priced at $60 USD per year for up to 3 systems, with up to 1PB of combined capacity. It adds replication management, app and VM management, and continuous statistics collection with 30-day retention. For a limited time, a coupon code is available for a 50% discount on annual subscriptions.
Business is in development for a Q4 launch, with support for HA systems and no cap on system count or capacity. It’s built for teams of admins, including MSPs, managing a fleet of TrueNAS systems.
July Improvements
Every update to TrueNAS Connect ships in the background – there’s nothing for users to install or configure. July’s release improves two things:
Microsoft OAuth. Microsoft and Office 365 users can now set up and sign into their TrueNAS Connect accounts with their existing credentials, joining the Google and GitHub sign-in options already available. This improves both security and ease of setup for those users.
WebUI alignment. The updated Connect interface now uses the same UI elements as TrueNAS 26, so the two interfaces feel like one continuous experience rather than two products to learn.
TrueNAS Deployment via Connect
We’ve spent this cycle documenting and refining Connect’s web-install workflow. With TrueNAS 25.10.4 now recommended for both General and Mission Critical deployments, we’re comfortable recommending web-based installation as the default way to set up a new TrueNAS system.
New deployments using the TrueNAS Connect web-install workflow have taken under five minutes in our testing. TrueNAS web-install also allows users to complete installations from their existing computer or laptop, rather than sitting at a physical console in a server room.
TrueNAS Connect Plus for Power Users
TrueNAS Connect Plus brings TrueNAS Community Edition users several capabilities that were previously only available on TrueNAS Enterprise appliances:
- WebShare (with TrueNAS 26)
- TrueSearch, with macOS Spotlight integration (with TrueNAS 26)
- Replication management
- App and VM management
- 30 day statistics collection and reporting
Connect Plus is also how TrueNAS Community Edition users can contribute directly to the software’s ongoing development. There’s no easy business model for professionally developed open-source software unless users contribute to it – we’ll keep adding tools that make that contribution worthwhile over time.
Business Tier Plans
TrueNAS Connect Business is in development for a Q4 release. Planned features include:
- Unlimited systems, admins, and capacity under management
- Support for both TrueNAS Enterprise and TrueNAS Community Edition systems
- High Availability (HA) systems
- Multi-year stats management
- Tools built for MSPs and VARs
Connect Business will require TrueNAS 25.10.4 or later. To leverage the full set of features available, an upgrade to TrueNAS 26 will be required. In the meantime, Enterprise users should use TrueCommand, which supports a full range of TrueNAS software versions.
FAQ
Q: Do I need TrueNAS Connect to use TrueNAS?
A: No – TrueNAS Connect is completely optional. TrueNAS Community Edition remains free with no license fees or cloud connection requirements. TrueNAS Connect Foundation offers additional features for no extra cost.
Q: How much does TrueNAS Connect Plus cost?
A: Connect Plus is priced at $60 USD per year (payable in your local currency) and covers up to 3 systems with up to 1PB of combined capacity. Monthly subscriptions are also available. For a limited time, a coupon code is available for a 50% discount on annual subscriptions.
Q: What’s the difference between Plus and the upcoming Business tier?
A: Connect Plus is capped at 3 systems and 1PB for individual admins and home labs. Business, launching in Q4, removes those caps and adds HA support, multi-year stats retention, and tooling built for MSPs and VARs managing systems across multiple customers.
