We are pleased to release TrueNAS 13.0-U6.1!

This is a minor update to 13.0-U6 to update OpenZFS to version 2.1.14 and fix a data integrity issue discovered in that project. While this bug has been present in OpenZFS for many years, this issue has not been found to impact any TrueNAS systems to date. This TrueNAS Community announcement has further details.

Also, the same fix will be in TrueNAS SCALE 23.10.1, which is due next week.

See the Release Notes for more details.

Thanks for using TrueNAS! As always, we appreciate your feedback!

Is temp.fix vfs.zfs.dmu_offset_next_sync can be safely disabled before update to 6.1 ?

Do we have to zpool upgrade in order to benefit from the ZFS bugfix?
Nope.

The only thing "zpool upgrade" will do is enable all new available features on the pool. Bugfixes are de facto in play from the upstream ZFS kernel module and usertools.

Outside of contrived stress tests, anyway. Nobody seems to have run across it in a real workload.

on TrueNAS...

The bug HAS been seen in the real world of Gentoo Linux... okay, some might argue that Gentoo Linux is not real world, unlike RedHat EL, Debian or SUSE.

Our advice is not do anything.... just update when convenient.
We've had 15 years of no-one seeing an issue on TrueNAS...... that millions of system years.

If you have the fix in place, why would you disable it before rather than disabling it after updating?
You may even leave the tunable to 0 to speed up operations, at the expense of using more disk space.

Do you know what % of expense of more space? 10% ,20%... etc.

I'm happy to say that the upgrade was nice and uneventful, no surprises.
