It is well documented that Tapatalk raises some serious concerns about privacy, but my understanding is that is only in regards to the users that are using Tapatalk themselves. I've also heard rumors that China "owns" Tapatalk and uses it as a state-sponsored service, but I've never found any conclusive information to corroborate that story. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I know by using facebook that facebook will use my information to monetise ads geared towards me which I'd imagine is similar to the way Tapatalk does it. I think the concerns (if I understand them correctly) for people that use Tapatalk are:

1. That Tapatalk allows people that use multiple forums to easily browse between the different forums without having to remember multiple logins.
2. Tapatalk enables instant push notifications to phones.
3. Tapatalk provides an easy to use graphical interface for phones.

Would you add anything to that list @pirateghost?

@wblock which things specifically regarding security are you concerned about? I read that link but it just didn't seem that serious to me that Tapatalk requests the name and email of the person that is using the app.

I'll look at that @depasseg

The only thing I can add to that link is that we dropped Tapatalk in the FreeBSD forums. Mobile users say the Xenforo mobile interface is usable. Maybe it has been improved and people here have not tried the latest version because they have been using Tapatalk.

I don't have any issues with the mobile interface on my iphone or android phone.

Mobile interface (it's the desktop interface scaled down, really) works fine for me. Layout is similar to the full desktop view, but with stuff hidden and rearranged as is logical on a small screen. Hell, even the spam killer tool works normally, as do all mod features.

The only issue is that the Resources section is unusable in landscape on large phones, but it works fine otherwise.

The German links they have state (FWIW) that the Tapatalk plugin actively grabs usernames/email addresses for all forum users, not just Tapatalk users. That is much more serious.

That about covers it for me. For the number of forums that I use, having a single app, with a similar interface across them all is excellent and handy. I have said it before, that if we drop Tapatalk, I won't be on.

I tried to use the mobile interface while Tapatalk was down last week. It was brutally painful. Looking just like the desktop interface is NOT a good thing.

At this point, I'll let the mods hash it out.

After reading today's messages, I removed Tapatalk from my iDevice, since I only use it for FreeNAS. I've been using the mobile interface (under Firefox) off and on, during the past week. For reading, it's been fine. For replying, I prefer TT (when not at home) or my desktop (when I'm at home).

OOC, @Ericloewe, which mobile device are you using? I know you have/had a Surface Pro 3?, at one point. Are you talking about it, or something else.

I mean on my phone, Lumia 950 XL.

The Surface Pro is for all intents and purposes a regular PC.

I noticed a new option at the top of the page this evening - "Unanswered Threads".

Thanks for adding it.

I like this as well, but have a request for an improvement.
When I open a post in the New Posts section and then return, the post I viewed previously is now gone from
the list of posts in that section. I hope that made sense o_O.
I would request doing this for the Unanswered Threads section please and thank you!

That doesn't make sense to me: when you open a 'new post' it is no longer a new post to you, as you've seen it. But if you open an unanswered thread, and don't answer it, it remains an unanswered thread.
