TrueNas Core info needed

Hello,

I want to make a Nas and I have a question.

When using Motherboard if I want to add a sata card for more drives is that possible?

If so how do I add the sata card(s) drivers?

You cannot use a card that requires third party drivers, You should get one that is supported by CORE natively.

There are essentially two options - cheap SATA cards, some chipsets known to work, some not so. Or an LSI SAS HBA that can also drive SATA disks. Which to pick - as always - depends.

How many disks are you planning to connect to that additional card?
Are you using a backplane with hot plug disks or direct cable connections?

Thanks for the fast reply to my questions, I really appreciate it.

I plan to have 4 that are on the MOBO and 2-4(for now) for on the sata card.

As for next question each drive Will be Cable direct, but I have special hotswap bays each with its own cables to each drive.

I will have to leave it to others to recommend a SATA card which looks like the best match for your setup to me. I have the luxury of running Supermicro Mainboards with up to 12 SATA connectors, so I don't have any experience with these.
