Hello community,

I hope my message finds everyone well. I have a question about my TrueNAS build. I am new to the whole topic of TrueNAS and ZFS. I might have shot myself in the foot with the build I put together, maybe, possibly?!

My ZFS pool status shows as “DEGRADED”.

Two out of five drives show a high checksum, and 1 error while scrubbing the pool.

The MOB I used has only 4 SATA connections. I bought a SATA PCIe Adapter 6 Ports SATA III to PCI Express 3.0 X1 Expansion Card. From what I understood, the throughput of PCI Express 3.0 X1 (0.985 GB/s) should be enough for a few HDD’s. Yet two of my freshly purchased NAS HDD’s show checksum errors (all of my NAS HDD’s are new).

Can it be due the cheaper Expansion Card I use?
Is it the small amount of RAM?
Is it even possible that two new drives have faults?

Here is some more info on my TrueNAS build:

TrueNAS version 12.0-U7
AMD Ryzen 3 3200G

8GB RAM
5 x 4TB NAS HDD’s - RAIDZ1
1 x 1TB SSD cache
1 x 120GB SSD TrueNAS install

Jails running: Adguard, Heimdall, Plex, Resilio

Thank you in advance for any input

Good lord,why?

Yes. but so what?

Can it be due the cheaper Expansion Card I use?

Highly likely.
