It appears you have that user's shell set to "TrueNAS Console." I sure hope that isn't the new default, because it's frankly silly. Set it to something sensible (I like zsh) in the user settings (Credentials -> Local Users).

When looking at snapshots, what does it mean when it reference 2.59TB? That is around the same amount of music that I lost.

That is the amount of data the snapshot references.

I didn't scroll back, possibly this wasn't addressed yet. A snapshot itself does not have a size, it's just a record of which data blocks were used / written at creation. In this case, the chances are good that the snapshot you are seeing is exactly referencing all your music. The snapshot holds information about 2.59 TB written data.

0 of course. Exit and give me that darn command prompt. What a moronic shell default setup. I tried zsh for 5 minutes and immediately switched back to bash when I found that the . command does not work as expected.

Terminal wont allow me to authenticate. I can login to SSH but that is it. I am logged into bash...

but it tells me that
-bash: zfs: command not found

what is going on?

Cannot authenticate in CLI

I am using scale and it is up to day.

Maybe I missed something, but wouldn't a screenshot of the snapshots tab of the WebUI have been more intuitive for the skill level of the opener?
Is he using SMB? In that's so, it's likely he's using Shadow Copies as well, which would make the recovery operation even easier without the need of exploring SCALE's new quirks.

Then you are bound to restore a snapshot from TN, either from Shell or WebUI.

I found a snapshot that had my music on it. I cloned it to a new data set and promoted it. I setup an NFS share and I am in process of copying my entire plex folder. Should be done in about 24 hours.

What a moronic shell default setup. I tried zsh for 5 minutes and immediately switched back to bash when I found that the . command does not work as expected.

I assume the screen in #25 stems from OP changing the shell, I never switched from the default zsh and therefore haven't seen that screen. If that's what you mean by moronic default setup. I can't comment on the latter, hasn't caused me problems so far but I assume I don't do as much in the shell as you ;)

@opensourceFTW glad you could solve your issue, the discussion about your shell troubles derailed this thread a little bit ;)

I mean any setup that produces a menu like that on first login. Because in many possible cases one enables SSH and wants to submit remote commands over that channel. With Ansible or similar tools. So if I set a shell for a user in whatever system's UI I expect to be able to execute ssh <user>@<system> do something.

That's what I meant. I'm pretty sure OP messed around in the shell settings prior to this thread. On a fresh installation you will never see that menu (at least I didn't).
And from looking at it I'm pretty sure this is a one time thing.

Or you mean like in general that the shell could require a setup like that even after messing around and not making reconfiguration optional / require user input. In that case yes, if you don't ever want the shell to capture your login like that I agree.
