Can't map my SMB shares anymore after upgrade, never had this problem before. Recommend people avoid until issue addressed.

Interesting. Did you file a bug?

I'm trying first to find out what went wrong. I have no idea what has changed but I can't map a share which has worked for over a year and 5 updates.
It's obviously storage permissions not smb permissions.

Yup just updated, now all my SMB settings are messed up. Doesn't look like the SMB service will even start in the WEB gui.

Does it come good if you rollback?

Go Accounts > Users and manually re-enter your password. They seem to be getting dumped in the upgrade.

I actually did that earlier it and it didn't work.

Looks like my generic security works fine for my guest stuff but my group is busted, I haven't had much time to play with it, not an important share.

I had the same issue. Switching active boot to U2 fixes the issue (well, not the issue but rolls back with no issues) for me.

This upgrade wipes the smb password database ( Lack of proper testing, or unavoidable side effect of fixes?) which is obviously bad news but is easily recovered from if you only have a few users on your FreeNAS. Otherwise it could be a major inconvenience.

This the before & after when upgrading from u2 to u3 on a test FreeNAS install:
