I agree, but there has been movement by the *wrt teams on getting wrt loaded on meraki devices. I am hopeful. But the switch will still function after licensing is up, it just becomes a dumb switch. At least that's what they told us in the meraki webinar.

Yeah, well, I'm not impressed by followthrough on that sort of thing. Plus an 8 port dumb switch is only like $18. That's all I really need, is to be needing to remember to manage a device's "time's up now I'm a moron" expiration date.

Normally PoE switches are a minimum ~$150 right?

I didn't realize they were that cheap... that's only a 10/100 though. Similar Netgear model that's 1G is ~$90, albeit I've heard from quite a few on SpiceWorks Netgear switches should be avoided.

80 buck ballpark sounds reasonable for an 8-port POE dumb GbE switch.

I didn't realize it was a POE switch. Does it still provide POE after the software lobotomy?

Yeah. Poe was working on it before I activated the license.

Fair 'nuff. Plus it looks like it's actually a 10 port switch with two SFP. That's not a bad deal especially if you just leave it be as a basic layer 2 switch, you can probably stick some Cisco 1000baseT SFP's in there for a 10 port switch. Plus it has an internal power supply.

Hello. This is my first time posting, but I've been following this thread for a bit..

If you're looking for good cheap PoE switches, our ISP turned us onto the MikroTik 260GSP (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KAXCVQ8/?tag=ozlp-20) to power our outside plant devices (1 Ubiquiti Nano and 3 Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LRs per building). They can be powered via the included brick or PoE and have 4 additional passive PoE ports that can supply up to 24V. It also has a SFP and is manageable. I'm powering them with a Ubiquiti 24V injector, and have all four devices running off of them. I haven't had any issues with them (3 months of running).

Last night the internet died...
The morning when I woke up it was still down, so called my ISP and reported the issue.
The UTM's wan interface was down, although the ADSL router (bridged) showed as synchronised
Had the day off, so we all went for a swim. While I was in the beach my ISP's technical support called me and told me that they see no issue with the line and suggested the classic router reboot etc.
After explaining the network scheme they suggested I tried a different router and see if it works.
The afternoon I plugged a different router in a different phone plug, set the PPPoE settings and the internet was working normally.
Changed it to bridge, plugged an Ethernet cable to the UTM's wan interface and still nothing... Down and no internet...
I ended up turning it off altogether and changing my access point back in router mode until I find some time to troubleshoot ...
Does anyone have any idea regarding this?
tl;dr
The adsl routers work just fine, switching to bridge the broadband LED is on, but the Wan interface on the UTM is always down ( been working flawlessly for over a year this way)
Any ideas welcome...

Dead NIC? Dead cable? Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again? :D

Lol...
Yeap, even went out to the backyard and then back in but no change...
A dead NIC was something I considered, too... (although the lights on the NIC seem to work - which may be irrelevant but whatever..) I tried with different cables but nope...no luck
I will need to get myself a spare hdd to perform a clean installation and see how it goes... I hope the O/S got corrupted somehow (I did accidentally pull the plug from the UPS a few times... ) and it is not hardware issue because the computer I use (a Dell 3020 SFF) has already an Intel PCI-E as a second NIC and I believe it has no other spare PCI-E slot.
The good thing is that it is still under warranty, though...

Did you just take an automatic update? I turn my automatic updates off and only update after I ensure the update has been working for at least a month. And I'm not talking about the Pattern Updates, just the Firmware Updates. Pattern Updates are fine, I have mine set to every 30 minutes. The Firmware updates are set to Manual.

I'd like to hear about your results.

Nope, my firmware updates are set to manual, too and actually there were 2 updates available. I was going to install the latest eventually, but I like to wake a bit, too (it has saved me a lot of headaches in the past with many software)
I hope I find some time during the weekend and perform a clean installation on a new disk. (I was also thinking about going the pfsense route for some time now, but I will try to find out what the issue with this is, first)
Will keep you posted :)

Update: Wife took the kids to the playground and left me a couple of hours alone.
Performed a clean installation on a different hdd and the PPPoE interface connected almost instantly.
Restored Wednesday's config backup and still everything up and running
Reverted to the old disk and restored the same config and voila, all is good again.
Seems that something broke the configuration and the interface settings for screwed...
All is fine now!
Happy camper again!!!

Glad to hear it. I may be upgrading to the latest version today. I'm on 9.402-7 right now and the new version is 9.403-4. I actually haven't heard many bad things at all, almost all of it was good.

EDIT: Pulled the trigger and did the Sophos update, all is working so far. I can't test my VPN remote login until Monday but so long as the internet works, everyone will be happy here.
