Question about my First TrueNas Build

Hello,

I try to switch my NAS from DSM to TrueNas because TrueNas offers more flexibility of hardware selections. I mainly use my NAS as files & photos storage, backups, and video streaming through smart TVs & Ipads at home.

As I cannot us DS Video for Video streaming, Plex seems to be an alternative option. After reading some posts, I found out intel CPU is a better option for video transcoding. I use a router with Dual 2.5 GbE ports and I add a 8 port 2.5GbE switch so more desktop can enjoy 1200mbps download speed from my ISP.

Based on my research (I have ZERO experience of building a TrueNas), I made a list of hardware that I plan to build a TrueNas system (maybe called server?).
  1. MB - Asrock Rack W680D4U
  2. CPU - i5-12600
  3. RAM - 32gb (2 x 16GB 1Rx8 PC5-4800B ECC REG Hynix HMCG78MEBRA105N AA DDR5-4800MHz PC5-38400)
  4. Boot Drive - Samsung PM981a 256GB 3D TLC PCIe NVMe SSD
  5. NIC - 2.5GbE Realtek RTL8125-CG
May I ask does my build make sense for a home use TrueNas system? Users are less than 5. Are these hardware compatible / support by TrueNas? Thank you in advance!

The Realtek NIC is not a good idea, Intel ones (or Chelsio for 10 Gbps) are preferred.

For more information please have a look at the "recommended readings" in my signature.

Thanks for your response. I will take a look at all your recommended readings as I am new to TrueNas.
