Mounting from msdosfs failed with error 19

Okay, Trying to install FreeNAS again. This time the setup is this:

Intel Atom motherboard
2x HDDs (for storage + mirror)
32gb SanDisk flash drive (for installation)
2gb Flash Drive

So I used "rufus" to install the ISO onto the 2gb Flash Drive. I boot up the system, I get to the grub menu and choose to install. It goes through a lot of initialization stuff and finally comes to this:

It sits there for about 5 minutes and then finally this comes up:

Stuck here. Is there perhaps something wrong with the 2gb flash drive I'm using? It's a cheap flash drive so maybe that's it?

Is that a typo? I just want to be sure.

The recommended boot disk size is 16GB and preferably a well known trusted brand, like Sandisk.

The 2gb flash drive is correct, however if you read my original post you'll see that I'm only using the 2gb flash drive to install the Freenas software. It will be installed on the 32 gb Sandisk flash drive and then the 2gb flash drive will no longer be used.

The ISO was only about <600mb. Are you saying that the flash drive I use to install the software from needs to be 16gb??

I've been using this hardware (with some other HDDs) to run a CentOS home server for a few years now. I'm just hoping to switch it out for FreeNAS in the hopes of simplifying things.

Please note that FreeNAS will not run on 2GB RAM, you should have 8GB RAM. This has nothing to do with your issue right now but you will find out that a warning message should appear letting you know of the RAM issue.

EDIT: I take that back, the low RAM could be contributing to your issue.

And it looks like I might be out of luck. This motherboard specs say it supports 2GB max. So much for trying to use old hardware for this project.

Even though this is my first post on this awesome forum, I may be able to help, since I just happened to run into the same problem. After bricking the first USB drive with win32diskimager I moved on to Rufus as well, resulting the exact same message. I have 16gb ddr4-rdimm ecc though.

This video however (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5R0AE9b1d4 in very low video quality and Spanish) provided the needed help:
- When Rufus asks you, if you want to write an iso-image [recommended], click on the second option "dd".
- After that the install ran smoothly.
- Because of the way dd works, the stick is afterwards not readable in windows and only 126kb were available for reformatting. A quick and dirty way to recover it is using Rufus again, this time writing it as an iso-image, and only then reformatting it to original size and file system.

Regarding the memory: Before I installed FreeNAS with VirtualBox on my old laptop with 4 gb (was only allowed to use 2gb). So it should be possible even though not advisable. For me it was good enough for playing around and getting familiarized before getting to the real deal.

Just tried to boot/install FreeNAS Corral 10.0.3 from a 4GB and a 2GB flash drives, both created with Rufus. The box is an old HP DC7900 from 2008 Q3 and has 8GB of RAM. I ran into the the same issue as the OP.
Maybe RAM is not the problem here.

Please note that Corral is presently dropped due to stability issues and a few other things (read the announcements in the forum).

Try FreeNAS 9.10.2-U2.
