H220 showing just ssd drives

Hi there!

Super newbie here to the IT world so apologies if the question is probably an easy one.

I want to install TrueNAS Scale on my HP DL360 Gen9. I did some research and I bought an H220 HBA for ZFS. I removed the RAID controller and installed the H220.
Now when I boot up the system and go to intelligent provisioning --> smart storage administrator I don't see my 7 SAS HDD but just the 1TB SSD.

I tried to remove and plug back in the caddies with the HDDs but still no luck.

I have not flashed the HBA since it said it came with IT mode already.

My question are the following:
- is there a way to check if it is in IT mode?
- if so could someone make a step by step way for me to check? (Super newbie so please eli5)
- in case in need to flash the card can someone give me a guide on how to do it?

I tried to look online but I have not been able to see a good guide on what to do and honestly I am scared to somehow damage the HBA that took a month to be delivered :D

Hi @Agino55 and welcome!

You don't need to (and probably shouldn't) use the HP SSA BIOS/UEFI setup tools. Don't set up any RAID or "Virtual Disk" configuration through HP, just let TrueNAS install onto a disk on its own.

With that said, how are the drives connected? Are your SAS HDDs connected differently than your 1TB SSD?

Also, the drive used to boot TrueNAS won't be available for use for file sharing. If the intention was to use the 1TB for boot, it may be better to pick a smaller SSD instead.
