I am rebuilding my system, and I forgot to take a fresh backup of my config (I don't think it has changed since the last backup, but I'm not 100$ sure)-was under time pressure, and it slipped through the cracks.
I'm using the same motherboard, but I upgraded to an i7 CPU and added another 16GB of RAM. If I boot the system (on USB v8.3) with no hard drive connected will it screw up the configuration file?
I'm sure I'll get a bunch of errors, but that's OK, I just don't want to put my data back until I've finished a bit of testing/burn-in.
How is the best way for me to save a copy of my config given that I've already dismantled the system?
(My main system is linux, and I do have access to a Windows XP box and a Win 8VM which runs under linux, so I'd prefer to use linux based tools if possible.)
Any suggestions/advice much appreciated.
