Hello, I recently came across a HGST HSMM1616ASS201 SAS SSD 。 the short smart test works but whenever I tried smartctl - long /dev/da*
it came back with a error message of Long (extended) offline self test failed [unsupported field in scsi command]。
is there anyway I can do a long smartctl test ? I believe my freenas Version is FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201604111739。

Does that drive support an extended test? Google didn't find that model number for the drive so is this a hybrid drive or just a SSD? Go ahead and post the output of smartctl -a /dev/da*. This will tell us more details to help you.

Okay, so it is a SSD which means that you do not need to do an Extended test (just my opinion) but the data you provided does seem to support that an Extended test is possible. I'm curious what smartctl -x /dev/ad* would produce.

Anyway the SSD actually tracks itself better than a traditional hard drive so you only need to look at the wear level indicator, on your drive it's "Percentage used endurance indicator: 0%". I'd run a SMART Short test daily and if anything does come up as an error, it will show up there.

And that sounds like a very nice drive, looks like the endurance is excellent.

Smartctl -x results are provided below. Hope I didn't skipped a few lines. HGST has a software that can check the health of the ssd. might try it someday. but software is windows only.... (sigh..)
