First-time post here, and I am really a newbie to TrueNAS with limited Unix experience and knowledge.

I've built my TrueNAS machine with 8 x 2TB used SAS Hard drives (which are cheap enough for practising).

Since the Hard drives are used, I tried to run long SMART tests on all the drives, via the webUI, and no success:

Errors:
da0

also I tried sudo smartctl -t long /dev/da0

sudo sas2flash -listall returns:

Exiting SAS2Flash.

What am I supposed to do? The short test runs fine, yet I still wish to run long SMART tests so that I would be less worried about the lifetime of the disks.

Thanks in advance.

I sent my used SAS drives back to the seller for this issue.

Maybe it is normal that these hard drives do not support long smart test? as the are manufactured in 2013, it might make sense?

SMART has been around for a long time.
I think they are running customised firmware for their previous application.
