This is the very first error any of my drives has ever had. I'm gonna keep a close eye on this,
but I don't really know how concerned I should be. Everything is backed up so no worries
there. I have two hot swap bays empty so switching the drive to another power and data
connection is only a matter of a shut down/restart.

That's very strange. Perhaps some kind of hiccup with the controller firmware. I would ignore it, and then, if there are no other CAM errors in the next couple of weeks, I'd try to forget about it and have my pulse return to normal. (If anything, no matter how small, is wrong with any of my drives, it will stress me out 24/7).

Pretty much ignoring it for now (no more errors reported). Your right, it was very strange, could be either the controller or
the Kingwin KF-4001-BK internal hot swap racks (2) I have the drives in. The drives have been plugged into those racks for
months and had no issues.
Bought a new Skylake motherboard with a Pentium CPU that's undergoing stress testing right now, as soon as I'm satisfied,
the new stuff will replace my old X9SCM-F and E3-1230 v2 which will become a backup system in the future.
I started up a test machine with the Skylake stuff and got this really strange email, check this out...

Just an update;
Today I yanked out the old hardware from my FreeNAS box and installed my new (fully tested)
Skylake hardware. Everything went without a hitch. I got rid of my M1015 HBA and my drives
now are directly on the motherboard's SATA controller.
here's my new list for those of you on mobile browsers (that can't see signatures).

Case - Mercury S8, CaseLabs
PSU - AURUM S 400 Gold, Fortran (FSP Group)
Motherboard - X11SSM-F, Supermicro
CPU - Pentium G4400, Intel
Memory - 16GB (16GB x1) M391A2K43BB1-CPB, Samsung
Boot Device - X25-E SSD 32GB SLC, Intel
Hard Drives - Six 3TB WD30EFRX, Western Digital
NIC - X520-DA1 10Gb, Intel
Vol. Config - Single vDev RAIDz2

FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201605240427 (64fcd8e)

I changed to a newer platform for the experience, because I can
and because it's my hobby. As an aside, it was easy on the wallet :)

What are these going for in the US?

When I got mine, I ended up paying close to 300 bucks, which felt crazy high. 50 bucks were shipping, but it was still the cheapest option.

Another error :(
I was trying to determine if this error was following a particular drive, but I x'd out the serial number for the
drive in my previous:rolleyes: post (shown below)
Code:
snip
  1. [root@freenas] ~# smartctl -a /dev/da0
  2. smartctl 6.4 2015-06-04 r4109 [FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE amd64] (local build)

  11. Sector Sizes: 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical
  12. Rotation Rate: 5400 rpm
snip

The error originally occurred on drive da0, but is now showing as ada5 (since moving pool to SATA ports
on the new motherboard from the old M1015 card). No proof ATM if this is the same HDD or not ;)
I have a new drive en-route from the WD Store (just in case) as a potential replacement.
Having my disks in these Kingwin KF-4001-BK hotswap racks, I guess I could switch the disks around in
different bays and wait to see if the error follows a disk or not.
Any thoughts???

I had occasional problems like that a long time ago. Can't remember the details, but shutting down and reseating SATA cables seemed to make it go away.

Just for the record, @BigDave, since we're doing post necromancy, you can do a -qnoserial with your smartctl to suppress the serial number. Just for future reference sir.

I know this is an aged post, but are you still seeing these issues? Just trying to correlate some data to see if I can spot a trend...
After some troubleshooting attempts, the error occurred again on the same drive, so I replaced it. Nothing ever since.

Thanks for the tip! That saves a few key strokes for sure.

sorry about the thread resurrection ... I got this error last time I ran a long test (late June). My next scheduled long test was last night and the same / similar error was thrown on the same drive.

I also have Kingwin KF-4001-BK drive bays ... but it seems your issue was resolved by replacing the drive.

I've since moved my hardware into supermicro sc826 chassis, no more kingwin modules for me.
