I have to say, after looking at just the first link, its no wonder people come here asking stupid questions when the authors of these articles can't even post correct information. A 3 disk mirror  ..... OH, and suggesting a mirrored ZIL? Ugghhh.

Some of these authors are in such a hurry to post an article about XYZ, they don't verify everything they write...

Sorry Salytwo, not your fault. A better place to start would be the official FreeNAS documentation:

http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Main_Page

or more specifically:

http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Windows_(CIFS)_Shares

My advice would be to start with an Anonymous share, and once you have that working, then work on the authentication part.

Thanks PHOTOSD,
Thanks PHOTOSD,

I have setup anonymous access successfully but when I tried to be restricted to predefined users I am facing user log-in dialog but no user success to log-in.

also I did not understand this phrase (in this page http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Windows_(CIFS)_Shares)

"Username and Password: matches the username and password on the client system "

thanks again

This is in reference to your Windows username/password.

"Username and Password: matches the username and password on the client system "

btw, you should have thanked ProtoSD, not photosd.

Hi brothers,

I tried many times with my windows xp and 7 privileges but same result "dialog keep asking me"
I snapshot all my configuration to help identify the exact reason.

Two things:

1. Did you get anonymous usage working? If not, you shouldn't worry about user permissions until you understand the anonymous usage.
2. Permissions are a common hurdle for users not familiar with FreeBSD and Linux. Unfortunately, permissions are also one of the hardest to diagnose over a forum setting. This topic is one of those that are best supported by saying that you'll have to read the manual, search Google for guides and figure it out for yourself. Even if we can fix a single folder for you, if you don't understand the concepts of why the settings have to be the way they are you'll be right back where you are right now when you need a different user or group to have permissions.

Yes, easily I did.

Do a google search for: site:freenas.org cifs chown chmod

In addition to configuration in the web gui, you'll need to execute chown & chmod commands from the shell.
