Removing drives on Dell R710 server

So I replicated my pool onto another drive for purpose of external backup. I exported the pool and left it in the machine. I confirmed that the pool was disconnected. When I went to pull out the disk today, I noticed it was spinning. Was there a step I missed or is that normal. All my drives are set to constantly spin. Or will a disk continue to spin even if the pool is exported because the disk is set to continuously spin?

If the power setting is set to "always on" - then as long as there's power applied, a disk will spin regardless of pool import/export.

When you remove them, unlatch the bay handle and eject gently first, then let it "spin down" for a few seconds (how about 5.4 or 7.2, a second per 1000rpm?) before pulling it the rest of the way. If you're using 10K or 15K SAS drives give them longer. (Although if the drive's properly dead, it's fun to yank it out, turn it sideways, and feel the angular momentum in action.)

Ok. Thank you. For the next one, I already changed the setting to spin down. But I will follow your advice in the future as that is simple enough. to do.
