Hi all,

i am not so expert with freenas and I would need of your support.
Until now (3 years) I have used a simple home nas configuration done with components of my old PC.
listed my poor configuration:

- Motherboard G41M-P33 Combo socket 775 chipset Intel G41 Micro-ATX
- INTEL - Pentium Dual Core E5400 2,7 Ghz
- KINGSTON - Dimm 4 Gb (2x2Gb) ddr2 800 Mhz
- 1 USB key 32 Gb for OS
- case Cooler Master Centurion 5 Midi-Tower
- Just the HD are quite new (2x2 TB western digital red) 3 years old.

Files I usually manages mainly consists of photo (RAW 50 Mb each) and video (gopro video, camera video and movies).
Now I am evaluating to build a new NAS with higher performance or to swith on market product such as QNAP or similar. I would prefer the own build one but I am quite confuse about budget required (I have in mind 1000€) and the correct hardware to install. That's why my request of support.
Do you have any suggestions regarding the hardware or other post where this kind of request was already discussed?

thank you

PS : let's excuse my "poor" english

thank you for your support.
after reading the document, I am going to go with:

- Supermicro X10SRL-F
- intel xeon E5 1620 v3
- 2 x 16GB Crucial DDR4 2666 ECC (CT16G4RFD4266)
- power supply seasonic GX-750
- fractal design R6
- Samsung EVO SSD 250 GB (for jails)
- 2 x 2TB Western Digital Red

is it a correct configuration for an entry level home use freenas?
I would need of your support to select cpu cooler, other PCI board (if required), SATA cables

thank you in advance

You would likely get more for less with used enterprise gear.

On the build you listed:
I don't see boot drive(s). Note: you cannot use the extra space on a boot drive for any other purpose (i.e. use something small).
Otherwise looks fine, though not much storage space.
You wont need another HBA until you add quite a few more drives.
That MB has 10 SATA ports, so you can have up to 10 drives before needing to add an HBA.
CPU HS/FAN I would suggest:
