Hi everyone,

First time here as an owner of a FreeNas Box.

I would like to share my setup with you.

_____________________________________________________________
  • Model : Hp ProLiant MicroServer Gen8

  • CPU : Intel Celeron Dual Core G1610T @ 2.3Ghz

  • RAM : 16GB ECC – Kingston

  • HDD : 2x500GB - WD RE3 | 2x1TB - WD Black

  • OS : FreeNAS-11.2-U7 on 32GB SanDisk USB Stick

  • UPS : APC 400VA
____________________________________________________________

The purpose of this Box is to store backup of my Documents and Photos and maintain them in good shape.

For extra redundancy i was thinking …

A.2x500GB WD RE3 – Mirroring

B.2x1TB WD Black – Mirroring

Then make snapshots of all Datasets from Pool_A and replicate them to Pool_B.
In playtime mode even if i remove the first 3 drives i still have access to my data.

I have one week until new RAM arrives so feel free to unwarp your thoughts .

Thanks…

Back again to give some feedback.

After 2 months of testing and without any problems today i decided to go live.
The setup i followed is the same as the first post plus i ended up with 2 x 32GB SanDisk USB Stick in mirroring. Also i added a 2.5" WD 640Gb for extra Replication backup.

Here you can see stats from today's copy consist of 80GB basically photos and videos.

I would like to say a big thank you , firstly to development team and secondly to the community that gave me the opportunity to involve myself in FreeNAS.

Rock solid for almost a year and a half.

A change that i made since my first setup was to add an extra sata controller with ASMEDIA ASM1061 chipset due to eSata ports that offers for my offsite backups. Cheap choice and working without any problem in my case with version 9.10.2 - U6
