Welcome to FreeNAS Forums. So this was your first computer to build? Well glad you finally caught up. I'm a few years older than you and been building computers since 1976. When I say building, I mean soldering all the components to a printed circuit board, programming the EPROM with the BIOS code, and watching the hexadecimal display do what we commanded, or thought we commanded. 2 years later it was soldering a Z80 computer together and running BASIC from EPROM. I think we have something like 2K of RAM.
Thankfully computers are a bit easier to assemble these days. I'd hate to solder on SMT parts, although I have done that too, but that takes a good eye and my eyes are not that good anymore. SMT is for the young kids. But as I said, building a computer today is much easier, however you still have the pain of spending lots of money and crossign your fingers it works when you are done.
I hope you enjoy yourself here.
