Hi

I've been trying to install FreeNAS 8.0.1 RC1 on vMware ESXi. Installation procedure completes successfully But when FreeNAS is trying to boot all I can see is an error(see attachment). Unfortunately v7 installs and boots perfectly. I think that whole 8.X family is affected.

Is it bug? If not then, give me an advice how to properly boot FreeNAS on ESXi.

PS FreeNAS is installed to virtual 256 MB (megabyte) hard disk.
PPS Tested ESXi 4.1, 5.0, VirtualBox, vMware Workstation 7 - results are the same.

I think 256mb is too small. I left the default 8 GB when creating mine on Wokrstation 7 (See my How-To in the How-To -> Configuration section of the forum).

I just checked the .vmdk file, and it is currently 500MB. Seems odd that the installation could complete sucesfully with only 256MB.

The hardware requirements say it needs to be at least 2 GB.

Also did you make sure you chose the correct OS type when configuring the VM?

[solved]

You're right. I didn't check HW reqs and I assumed that if v7 could be installed on 256MB drive than for v8 also will be enough. My fault. After increasing boot drive size to 2GB everything went fine and FreeNAS boots properly.

Thanks for reminding the basics AKA "RTFM" ;)
