I'm new to FreeNAS, this is one of my first times using anything but windows, so I have almost no experience when it comes to anything linux. I'm trying install FreeNAS 11.2 BETA2 to a Dell Optiplex 990 SFF pc. I am trying to use a 2gb generic usb drive to install it and will be installing FreeNAS to a 16gb verbatim usb drive. The system has 10gb of ram, an Intel 15-2400 cpu and im undecided on hard drives at this point, I've got a few to choose from. I've tried using a couple different flash drives I have around to install including an 8gb kingston, as well as a dvd install disc and had no success. It always hangs at the FreeBSD/x86 bootstrap loader with the colon symbol. I get the same message regardless of what I do. I have also tried to check the checksum using hashcalc and it seems to match the checksum on the download page. Any suggestions or info? Or if this is a redundant thread could someone direct me to help.

If I had a tablet, perhaps I could flip it around and view the images. All your screenshots are upside down.

It's late and my brain hurts. Perhaps someone else can help.

I actually managed to get FreeNAS 11.1 U6 to install without a hitch. Just learning my way around everything now. It was more difficult than it should have been to find a stable non beta release...

Sorry to hear that you ran into that issue - it's been a common problem recently. iXsystems definition of "stable" isn't intuitive. By "stable" they are referring to the underlying version of FreeBSD.

The active users on the forum have brought it to their attention since a lot of new users are running into issues due to running the beta version thinking it's the latest "stable" version. They can't fix it for 11.2, but should address it in 11.3.

It was more difficult than it should have been to find a stable non beta release...
