I been wanting a NAS build for awhile now and a finally have decided that I am going to build one, but I want to know your thoughts on the parts I have choice. I plan on getting more 4TB WDR hard drives later and I know it is better to get them all at once for storage efficiency and so you don't have to backup and delete/remake pools.

NAS Goals:
  1. Plex server Transcode & Stream (3 x 1080p)
  2. Basic storage music, movies, pictures, and backups/images of home computers.
  3. Be able to emote access. (cloud storage).
  4. 24/7 operation.
  5. Have fun and learn about FreeNAS without too many install/compatibility troubles.
NAS Part List:
  • CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v5
  • Motherboard: Supermicro MBD-X11M-F-O Micro ATX LGA1151
  • RAM: 2x Crucial 16GB(1x16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
  • Storage: 2x 4TB Western Digital Red Hard drives (Already own)
  • Case: Fractal Design Define R4 ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Power Supply: Corsair RMx 1000W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply
I was also wonder if you think motherboard choice is good or do recommend any other motherboards?

You should not be disappointed. Consider if you can a couple more drives. 1000W power seems overkill, I must have originally skimmed that.

What would be the max power supply you think I would need if I later on added more drives (6-8 drives total), more ram, and some fans?
