First NAS Build, any thought

The only thing I am torn with is just the motherboard. I am thinking whether 8 SATA ports will be sufficient or not since I have read some discussions which mentioned that it is not feasible to boot freenas through USB if I am using this motherboard.

When reading about potential issues it's useful to look at the dates on them to see that they apply to software that is nearly two years old by now. USB has been working fine on Skylake since 9.10.

Now that you mentioned it, I just checked the date and you are right.
