4x 4TB in Raidz2 gives about the same storage and redundancy as 3x 8TB in a 3 way mirror.

But should be about a 3rd cheaper. And will write twice as fast.

Yup, I figured the 4TB drives would be cheaper. But hey! maybe when my WD Reds finally start to die there will be some cheap 2TB SSDs out there and I could replace those, drop everything into a smaller case, put a handle on the top and power it with a AA battery.:p

Using Sync.com as my offsite backup solution.

There are other cloud backup solutions such as Crashplan (unlimited storage) which is actually very cheap however I personally would use it for only your important data. At $5/mo, it's a good value. But if Sync.com is free, that is a better value.
