Configuring S.M.A.R.T. correctly

I was reading the S.M.A.R.T. documentation and I'm a little confused. Do I need to do anything additional beside enabling the service, for the most minimal tests? I'm not sure if I need to enable the automatic tests and what is the recommended schedule not conflicting with scrubs.

My scrub is set to every day with a thresold of 14 days.
