MB intel s2600cp
CPU 2 Xeon E5-2609 v2
RAM 16gb (will be upgrading with 4 32 fb chips
HARD DRIVE (s) 13 4 tb drives. 16 possible
CARDS Chenbro (can not find model) sas/sata expander
(What I need to change) LSI 9260-8i

I hot this server blew the server 2012 software. Loaded trueNAS v13 (latest stable) on 250 fb Hd. Looks like the 2960 can not be put in IT Mode. I have been looking at getting an LSI 9211-8i and just connecting the cable from the expander to port 0 on the 9211 like the 9260 is currently. Funding conflicting information on weather the 9211 can do larger than 2tb and mad drives so say 12 others say 256. I am looking at some 25-70 dollar 9211-9i cards on eBay but don’t want to get one that will not work with my setup. Any and all help is welcome.

Thank you

Ps. Some of the pics are from before I blew the server software

The 9211-8i and other cards based on the LSI SAS2008 chipset are perfectly capable of handling >2TB drives, and the expander should allow to you use more than the eight drives that can be directly connected.

The expander looks like the CHENBRO CK23601.

Your expander will allow for this, as SAS expanders behave in a manner similar to a network switch.

Card I looking at

That doesn't look like any LSI PCB that I'm familiar with. I would be more comfortable with a used pull from a Dell/IBM server, or a seller with a proven track record such as ArtOfServer (I have no affiliation with this user)

Part numbers vary unfortunately.

For Dell, look for the PERC H200 or PERC H310.
For IBM/Lenovo, look for the ServeRAID M1015.

There are other system vendors such as Fujitsu or Sun Microsystems; the risk of buying an "LSI" branded card is that it could be counterfeited. A used pull from a system vendor is likely to be legitimate.

SATA drives will work on a SAS HBA or expander.

That's more of a network level error, probably that there is no DNS resolution for the system name or that your Windows system is considering your home network "public" and has disabled Network Discovery.
