I have this exact same problem. Same specs except I have 64GB ram. I was however able to successfully install Truenas Scale without any issue. I played with it for a bit and then tried to install truenas core and get the same issue where I get the install prompt and then it goes straight to a black screen with a white block in the top left corner. Still have no idea what is going on.

Are you booting in legacy mode or UEFI mode?

UEFI boot of a 32GB Kingston Data traveler, BIOS is set to Other OS type. I had a previous install of TrueNAS Core 13 on this PC. only things i changed is initially had an i5 10500 and only 2 x 512 M2. NVME drives. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version. I tested my TruneNAS USB install media on an other PC and it works. I also installed Windows 11 on this PC and that also works. I removed the 4 port nic and H310 card but still no joy. currently testing install with TrueNAS Scale that works so I'm assuming something in the BIOS but what...

Try disabling the audio and Thunderbolt in the BIOS. TrueNAS won't use it, and the installer probably lacks drivers for them. Also disable SecureBoot.

disabled secureboot and deleted the keys
disabled HD audio
Thunderbolt was already disabled

still the same result press 1 then screen goes black. solid white cursor appears top left. keyboard flashes then nothing moves. PC is not hard locked as num lock and caps lock still respond and i can CTRL+ALT+DEL and force a reboot

I know that E-cores have been an issue with causing reboot loops, but not sure if this could be the same issue in play. Can you try disabling them if they exist on your processor?
Im using a 12100 which only has 4 P-cores, no E-cores. I was able to get TrueNAS Scale to work so I'm just going to go that route on this NAS build.

I had a similar problem on my LGA1200 setup.
I finally read on the net that the problem could come from the boot in UEFI mode. I then had to install a dedicated graphics card to be able to switch the boot to CSM mode, which the GPU of my Pentium Gold G-6400 did not accept.
In this mode, no more black screen during the boot on the installation key, and I was able to install Truenas Core 13 without any other problem.
Once the installation was finished, I removed the graphics card, which was only used for the time it took to install TrueNAS on my system disk.
Hopefully this will help...
