I plan on using 8 of the sata ports with freeNAS. I do not plan on using any VM's, and from what I've gathered on this forum, it will work best if I flash the card into IT mode. Is this true or can I get away with not flashing into IT mode?

Also, if I flash it (or dont flash it) are there better or worse sata ports on the card to pick to use?

Thanks!

Flash it to IT mode p16. I'd use the blue SAS ports personally. But you could split them Intel and SAS if you wanted. Doesn't matter as HDD's will never saturate the bandwidth.

Follow this guide and flash it to IT mode. Make sure you have your controller ID number before you attempt the flash. You can do that by entering the controller setup menu and writing it down.

You can get the firmware you need at the URL below. For whatever reason it won't link properly so you'll have to copy the address and paste it in your browser address bar.
