Regarding static/dynamic IP addresses:

For something "big" and "central" like a server, you will want to choose and set up a static IP address (or set of addresses, depending on what you're setting up), rather than relying on DHCP reservations which leave you at the whim of your DHCP server.
It sounds painful, but really isn't any harder than setting up the reservation wherever your DHCP server is running.

Just make sure your static IP addresses and DHCP IP address pool don't overlap.
