Hi,

I'm doing my burn-in tests with my new NAS box (see signature for specification), and am having trouble configuring the UPS.

I have run the command:
dmesg | grep -i --color 'american power conversion'

Which gave me the following result:
ugen0.5: <American Power Conversion Smart-UPS 1500 FWUPS 09.3 ID18> at usbus0
uhid1: <American Power Conversion Smart-UPS 1500 FWUPS 09.3 ID18, class 0/0, re
v 2.00/1.06, addr 4> on usbus0
So I then went to Services to configure the UPS:

UPS Mode: Master
Identifier: ups
Driver: APC ups 1 Smart-UPS (apcsmart)
Port: /dev/ugen0.5 (as found out above)
Shutdown Mode: UPS reaches low battery
Shutdown Command: /sbin/shutdown -p now
Monitor User: upsmon
Monitor Password: fixmepass
Send Email Status Updates: Ticked
To email: my email address

However it fails to connect to the UPS, and I get two emails saying 'COMMBAD - ups' and then 'NOCOMM - ups', also on the console the message 'UPS [ups]: connect failed: Connection failure: Connection refused'

Any pointers on what I can do to resolve this?

Cheers,
Jonathan

Try the usbhid-ups driver instead of apcsmart - it works with some APC UPS units.

Wonderful mate, that worked. Must admit was a bit nervous selecting a different option myself, why I posted here before changing anything :)

Turned off power to UPS, FreeNAS shutdown (eventually, once UPS got to low battery) - so happy with that!

Now, I just need to figure out why it didn't restart back up when power was reconnected.

Make sure the "Power off UPS" checkbox on the UPS service settings in the WebGUI isn't checked?

It wasn't, however I tried it with the box ticked, and it works.... :)

I know this was posted almost a month ago, but you have no idea how helpful this was to a newbie who has an APC Smart-UPS 1500. If I were to use the communications cable (a DB9 to RJ45 cable, part# AP940-0625A), any idea what port or driver I would use?

Thanks for any info,
Don
