Every single one I shucked was. (It's a safe bet for capacities 8TB or greater.) All four are being used in someone else's TrueNAS server which I helped build for him.
All white labels. They all have NASware, and all support TLER. (A couple were luckily He-filled, and run notably cooler and quieter.) All CMR.

As for point number one, I highly recommend you check out @jgreco's guide [1], and humor yourself with the algorithms.

Some caveats:
- Be careful and patient as you shuck. [1] You don't want to cut your skin by mistake.
- Different external enclosures differ in how you "shuck" them, but they mostly follow the same concept.
- Shucking voids the warranty. (And likely the return policy.) But if you're extra careful, you can do it in such a way that it can be re-assembled if you need to return it.
- If you don't care about warranty or returns, you can be more aggressive, but you should still take your time.
- I used Kapton tape on all the shucked drives to cover power pins 1 through 3. (Not because they all needed it, but you might as well. Saves time to do it on all of all them, rather than use trial-and-error to see which ones need it.)
- Be sure to check for and use
-l scterc,70,70
for all the drives in their respective settings. [2]
Before you commit to shucking an external WD drive, you can actually run
smartctl -a
when it's plugged into a USB port. You can then read relevant information, such as its model number and attributes. As for point number one, I highly recommend you check out @jgreco's guide [1], and humor yourself with the algorithms.
Why does Amazon even do these "bundles"?
I challenge anyone to come up with a reasonable justification for this "bundle" on Amazon. I really don't get why certain things are bundled together, especially when they're not less expensive than buying them separately, and even more so when it doesn't make any sense. I can understand a...
