Exciting! Really looking forward to hearing feedback on the new Storage UI pages, hope everybody enjoys the improvements as much as we are.

Does this provide any improvement to ARC size when running several VMs? I have 128GB RAM and my 22.02.3 system seems to have settled out with an ARC of 18.9GB. I have 40GB of RAM assigned to VMs. It seems like the target value the system uses gets modified as the system runs since any overrides I make end up being reset without a reboot. I also understand that overrides may not be safe so I have just been letting the system manage ARC size.

For clearity we want to highlight that our support staff is not accepting tickets when people run into TrueCharts related issues on Bluefin.
Though we do appreciate reports on our development channel on Discord :)

Unsure. I know by default ARC is going to be capped at 1/2 memory, so in your case it should grow to 64GB, leaving that other 40GB and 24GB for your VM's and services respectively. If you want to give Bluefin a shot, this would be good data to have, if you see it not behaving properly, file a ticket, since we'd like to fix this sort of thing in BETA/RC cycles.

I did the update to 22.12 B1 last night. My ARC has been at 18.9GB for the 22 days prior to the update. I just checked about 12 hours after installing the Bluefin beta and ARC is 62.9GB!

The only issue I seem to have is the Plex app will no longer start. It just stays at Deploying.

Well, thats good to hear on the ARC size then! For the Plex app, do you get any errors or log messages from it? We'll need a debug or more details to troubleshoot that one specifically.

Not sure what to make of this. When I hit start it will say Deploying, then Stopped, then Deploying forever...

Judging from the timestamps it almost look as if Plex did start properly, but got shutdown later on. Did you check to see if Plex was up after a couple of minutes? I.E. by checking it directly, not through the UI?

Either way, it might be a bug in the TrueNAS side where its not reporting the up state properly. Can you open a ticket for us?

I didn’t actually try to use it. I will take a look tonight and open a ticket. Thanks.

Was this resolved in Beta2?
The initial problem was that my app storage got out of sync after the upgrade to Beta1. I was told this is an upstream issue and given instructions to fix the problem.

My PLEX app still does not work though due to my PLEX folders being "consumed by a cloud storage task". This must be a new behavior in Bluefin as I always had the PLEX folders included in my daily Backblaze backups. I was told this was as intended. I was going to try removing the folder backups eventually and see what happens.

Seems like a bad idea to not be able to cloud sync the folders though.

Cloudsync and/or snapshots should work with hostPath as far as our Contacts are aware.
If it's not that should be considered a bug, if you already have a Jira ticket about it that's closed please send the link :)

The reason shares+Apps are blocked is mostly related to the fact how permissions for one, might negative affect the permissions of the other. It can become a nested cluster-fuck pretty fast. This, however, is not really an issue with CloudSync tasks.

I did not change anything from how I was using it in Angelfish.

@truecharts - I do have the folder where my PLEX media files are located shared via SMB. I also have an SMB share created for the PlexConfig folder, but it is disabled.

Could this be what is causing the error in Bluefin?

This is the error they flagged in the ticket as intended:

Code:
Warning Failed 1s (x3 over 20s) kubelet Error: Error response from daemon: invalid volume specification: '/mnt/SSDPool/PlexConfig:/config': Invalid mount path. /mnt/SSDPool/PlexConfig. Following service(s) uses this path: `CloudSync Task`.

BETA.1 is by now replaced by BETA.2, so we're not going to spend time to comment on your question...

We've cross referenced this with iX:
Your problem was not SMB, your problem was "CloudSync".

iX has ensured us that with RC1 you should be able to combine CloudSync and Apps storage :)

Just a follow-up. After upgrading to RC1 I was still unable to get past deploying. I had to disable the SMB share for my PLEX data folder. Once I did this everything started working normally again.

I guess I would need to stop PLEX, enable the share, copy new files, disable the share and restart the app to update the media folders.

I'd suggest starting a new thread after testing what works and doesn't work with Rc1.
