Hello,
I updated FreeNAS system a few days ago, at this time I also activated the periodical SMART inspections.
My hard drives are
5 x Western Digital WD30EFRX Red 3TB (RAID-Z2)
1 x Seagate Archive HDD v2 8TB

the rest of the hardware is a HP MicroServer N36L (8 GB RAM).

Unfortunately I now get daily critical warning messages. I'm not sure where this comes from.

From the FreeNAS overview page:
KRITISCH: Device: /dev/ada4, Read SMART Error Log Failed
KRITISCH: Device: /dev/ada4, failed to read SMART Attribute Data
KRITISCH: Device: /dev/ada2, Self-Test Log error count increased from 0 to 1

smartctl of /dev/ada2

Code:
~# smartctl -a /dev/ada2
smartctl 6.3 2014-07-26 r3976 [FreeBSD 9.3-RELEASE-p16 amd64] (local build)

ada2 failed the SMART test. That's a big problem. It's not a bug, it's a dying drive. But you haven't even been monitoring the drive, it has two SMART tests for 13k+ power-on hours!

As for the Seagate drive, it could be a bad drive, bad controller or a smartctl bug. Not nearly enough information.

Interesting link. Thank you.
All of my WD Red have around ~740K load cycles.
Then the whole pool needs to be replaced...:(

Yes, there are under warranty.
I first have to backup the pool. I bought another Seagate Archive 8TB but there are similar errors in SMART. Are they normal?
