Been oggling this case for a while, and am close to pulling the trigger on the build, but I'd like some feedback. I discovered I am limited to 6.7 x 6.7 inches with the mobo (no extended mini itx allowed), so with that limitation, I'm having difficulty finding a mobo that allows me to do 8+ drives, so I'm thinking I'll need to add an HBA.

Mobo: asrock c2750d4i
RAM: 16 GB ECC (still deciding on model)
Case: Silverstone CS01-HS
PSU: Silverstone SX500-LG
HBA: Silverstone ECS02 (as this thread was considering)
HDDs: Eight - WD Green 2TB 2.5" 5900RPM
Raid: Z2 - 12TB

Would it be a terrible idea to use the asrock mobo's marvell controllers for the OS drive(s)?
Is there a better mini itx board for 8 drives?

If it fits, ASRock has a voodoo-shrunk X10SL7-F that is barely larger than miniITX and includes an SAS controller for a total of 14 onboard ports. E3C224D14 something or other.

I specifically asked SilverStone about the E3C224D4I-14S, and they informed me 8.4x6.7 is too large for the case

That complicated things. You can add an LSI SAS2 controller like an SAS 9211 or SAS 9207 to one of the C224 or C226 miniITX boards, but that's about it.
