Hey guys,

I've been running FreeNAS 9.10 for quite some while now on an AsRock C2750D4I board.
Recently after the 9.10.2-U1 update the powerbutton stopped working and the system no longer shuts down after pressing the button. Sending a powerbutton pressed signal via the IPMI neither works, but did so before the update.

Any ideas what could be the problem? According to "sysctl hw.acpi" the powerbutton is configured for state S5 (soft-off), so in theory it should work. Shutting the system down via the web GUI still works but is rather clumsy.

Greetings,
Felix

That is odd but in order to validate it you should roll back to the previous version and ensure the power button works again. If in fact you can possitively point this to FreeNAS 9.10.2-U1 then you should ensure your firmware is all updated on your motherboard and if the problem still persists then submit a bug report.

How long are you holding the button for? On one of my systems, we have to hold the button for about 4 seconds before a shutdown starts.

I'm holding it for about one second, I will try holding it longer. But pressing the button via IPMI also does not work and did so before.

Normally holding a power button longer than 3 seconds will do a hard shutoff?!
Not really good for FN.

The function of the power button it typically determined by the BIOS setting. I would not hold it in longer than 2 seconds becasue a 4 second push typically will just power the system off immediately. But as the OP said before, IPMI does not respond correctly which is an indicator that something else is going on which is why I recommended doing a firmware update/factory reset to the motherboard.

On many systems, the specific action taken when pressing the power button can be controlled by settings in the bios. The OP said power off action by IPMI was also affected, which made me think about hardware or bios settings. It is hard to imagine that updating FreeNAS could affect this behavior.

However, joeschmuck's suggestion to reload the older FreeNAS version could validate it was actually a FreeNAS problem and not something else.
