Everything working great until I tried to add a new disc yesterday.
FreeNAS wouldn't start.
So I took the new disc out and tried to start up but constantly getting fsck errors on original disc.
I've tried removing that disc and just booting off the original CF card and that works fine.
But with the original (previously fine) disc attached it just fails while running fsck
The errors are:
THE FOLLOWING FILE SYSTEM HAD AN UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY:
ufs: /dev/ufs/NAS4TBONE (/mnt/NAS4TBONE)
Automatic file system check failed; help!
ERROR: ABORTING BOOT (sending SIGTERM to parent)!
Sep 16 12:43;42 init /bin/sh on/ etc/rc teminated abnormally, going to single user mode
Enter full pathname of shell or RETURN for /bin/sh:
Having googled this I got the advice to hit return then at the # prompt to run
fsck -fy
manually
which when run gives me feedback for
/dev/ufs/FreeNASs3
and
/dev/ufs/FreeNASs4
(not sure if there was an s1 and s2 as the screen reacts too fast)
telling me
FILE SYSTEM IS CLEAN
and going through
PHASE 1 to 5 checks successfully
but when it gets to
/dev/ufs/NAS4TBONE it does only
PHASE 1 - Check Blocks and Sizes
then gives me
50071492 DUP I=11556409
UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY
followed by
INCORRECT BLOCK COUNT I=64468061 (8 should be 0)
CORRECT? yes
I pressed return then
INTERNAL ERROR; dups with -p
UNEXPECTED SOFT UPDATE INCONSISTENCY
**Phase 1b - Rescan For More DUPS
and now it's just hanging.
I'm not sure if I should leave it like that for a while or not?
Afraid to "dirty" shut down again in case it causes more problems - any ideas?
The original disc is a very recent specific purchase of a Seagate 4TB NAS HDD which has been running perfectly before this.
The other parts are quite old so I am only running the 32bit version of 8 for the moment so am using UFS.
I've googled this quite extensively and some suggestions say it may have to do with having to "dirty" shutdown when the new disc messed things up.
I was just trying to get my backups finished so I could reinstall some software on my main pc and get on with some work, today - Monday. Kind of holding me back now :-(
Any ideas please?
