I am in really no position of offer that kind of support via forum...

If you're willing to contribute I'm at irc.freenode.net #freenas (as grzybowski), I'll need at least SSH access.

Ok, at the moment I'm not able to give SSH access. Could the error because of the fact that i'm running the system in VMware? Would not really clearify the error to me, because when runninf in ZFS mode all worked fine. Thanks again for your quick help !

Well, I tried to install the Plugins Jail on a UFS system and it failed. It crushed the browser (both Chromium and Firefox) when attempted to install the Jail PBI. I created two subdirectories (/mnt/volumename/Jails and /mnt/volumename/Plugins] on the UFS volume. Then I downloaded the plugins_jail-x86.pbi (and the miniDLNA pbi) and followed the instructions to install the plugins jail. I tried twice but both times the attempt failed (the browser crushed when I chose the plugins_jail pbi file). One strange thing is that during the second stage of the process of plugins_jail installation when the system asks for the plugins_jail pbi file the form does not include a field for the file's sha256 key. Then as soon as you press the button "upload jail PBI" the browser crashes.
The FreeNAS vesion that I have installed is 8.2-beta3 (upgraded from 8.0.4-RELEASE-p1).

How do you create subdirectories? I first thought about trying ZFS datasets, but I don't think my hardware is up to the task of using ZFS volumes. So i have created UFS volumes using the web GUI. I read the manual but the tutorial is for ZFS. so how do I create subdirectories? I need to set up directories so I can install the plugins jail.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, and thank you.

In the GUI left hand panel select Shell.
Now you would type cd /mnt
cd stands for change directory. /mnt is the mount point for where your hard drive volume should be located.
Type ls
ls means List.
This should show you the volumes you have.
Let's say your volume is labeled Farm, then you would type cd Farm
Once there you can create a directory called Jails or whatever you want, just type mkdir Jails
mkdir means Make Directory.

That should help out some but you should read up one FreeBSD BASH commands. I know it's tuff, I was there a few years ago trying to learn this stuff.

Perfect. Thank you for your time, I know that was probably a bit trivial. I just had to dive in, play around and make the directories with shell vs make datasets inside the GUI. I have successfully installed the plugins jail, created a mount point, and installed transmission.

I can get to transmission via web gui, i just used the jail ip:9091 -

but i'm having trouble getting the transmission add-on in my XBMC box to talk to the freeNAS box.

Time for some more tinkering...

Thanks again
