Replaced a faulted hard drive a few days ago with a new WD red 4TB and it instantly gave write errors during the first resilvering. I went through the usual troubleshooting (Following https://www.truenas.com/community/r...ubleshooting-guide-all-versions-of-freenas.17), and wanted soem advice on what to do next.

Output from `zpool status -v`
Code:
 root@truenas[~]# zpool status -v
  pool: Data1
 state: DEGRADED
status: One or more devices are faulted in response to persistent errors.
Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a
        degraded state.
action: Replace the faulted device, or use 'zpool clear' to mark the device
        repaired.

As you can see it's 4x4TB in raidz1. After seating the new hard drive I tried the following:
  • Replacing SATA cable
  • Changing SATA port on MB
  • Reseating the hard drive and moving the hard drive to another location in the chassis
  • Using a different power cable form power supply
  • Removing a mirror ssd from the boot pool because maybe there were too many devices for the onboard SATA controller
Each time I did the above I resilvered the entire pool and errors were persistent.

Here is the output from a long smartctl test

Code:
root@truenas[~]# smartctl -a /dev/sdc

Everything I've read indicates that this is a DOA HDD. However I have some suspicions. The previous "Faulted" hard drive that I replaced wasn't exactly old. It was manufactured in 2019 and SMART tests indicated that the hard drive wasn't exactly pre failure. Is this potentially some bug in trunas or zfs on my installation?

Also, what recommendations do you have for a DOA HDD? I can return through amazon but the hard drive already has my data on. Otherwise I can go through WD. Any success going through the manufacturer?

Today I learned! Thanks a lot!
Don't worry, we all learn, and typically it's a hard lesson. SMR has got a lot of people.
