about 1 year later all the hdd were broken and replaced with western digital.

i'd also realised that the on-line guide that i followed - which said you don't need server quality hardware - was a little misleading. so i began to plan for replacing the m/b, cpu and memory. i also realised i needed an ups.

i sold my memory on ebay and i got more than what i'd originally paid for it. which was probably the only upside of following the original guide. that and learning how good and easy freenas was to use.
