Does anyone see any problems with this? I've heard FreeBSD doesn't like the AMD APUs, but I'm not using accelerated graphics for a NAS, so I think it won't matter.
Would it benefit me to add an Intel Gigabit Ethernet card rather than use the built-in RealTek 8111e?

It looks fine, but it's difficult for people to give you input on whether the build is OK if they don't know what you plan to do with it. What will be stored on it? Multimedia? ATM transactions? How many devices will access it? Are they gigabit? Are you trying to do JBOD, RAID0, RAID1, RAID-Z1, RAID-Z2? In other words, do you want protection against HDD crashes? The more detail you provide, the better the feedback you'll get.

Sorry, that would be helpful.

I have a desktop and a laptop. They're both gigabit, thought I don't use the laptop much. I also have a couple TiVos. They have 100 Mbps interfaces, but will not interface directly with the FreeNAS box. They connect to the desktop via a program that transcodes and serves video over the network.

I mostly want a single place to keep all my files (video primarily). I switch between Linux, Windows, and OS X, and it's difficult to share data between them. Up till now, I've been keeping them on various partitions of various drives and copying data when I need to, often from external flash drives and hard drives.

Although I don't worry too much about disk failures, I have had huge file loses at times. I was planning to use RAIDZ1.

I see no problems with your intended build given your stated uses. Make sure "4TB" is really going to be enough for what you want to store. If you plan on "growing" the pool later, I suggest reading up on some of the threads where that's discussed and reading noobsauce80's ZFS primer if you haven't already.

Do you have a link to that ZFS primer? I tried searching for it, but I didn't find it. I would like to read up on it.
