As in an external hard drive? If so, you can probably make it work, but eSATA is preferred.Could I use a USB as a FreeNas Backup?
OK Figured that out...Wrong plug on power supply.....ughhHELP !
Board won't power up. I can access through through IPMI. When I click Power On I eventually (1o Seconds) get a clicking sound from my power supply.
I get a popup error " Performing power function failed, Please check the Feature connector cables.

Jeff
I will complete 1 and 3 when I get home tonight.
- Remove PXE boot option in BIOS.
- Are you using USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port on the motherboard?
- Any USB options in your BIOS you can toggle? Look for xHCI or XHCI.
Ok, I followed these instructions. It took a bit but I got PXE boot option off on LAN settings and disabled XHCI. I was able to get Freenas GUI up and running until I rebooted !! Now I'm back to square one

Sorry bout that!I am confused...
Could you please repeat information about:
- source of the initial FreeNAS installation
- destination media for FreeNAS (the media FreeNAS would normally run on)
- boot sequence in BIOS
Yup! RTFM...practise what I preach :DPlease do not remove (Initial-Install) !
That is an actual feature and the FreeNAS team is proud of it ! ! ! :D
In short, FreeNAS stores previous boot environments to allow for an easy rollback in case anything happens.
Long story is that you have to read the manual ;) http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas.html
