Dump the SATADOM and get 2x 16GB Sandisk Cruizer Fit 2.0's.
Kind of hard to dump now that it is my hands. On another note....Could I use a USB as a FreeNas Backup?

Ram installation time ! Just want to confirm
Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600
Goes in Channel A, Slot 1 and Channel B, Slot 1

SataDom Question also;
Is it OK top power it directly from the power supply rather then the board? I only have an adapter for the power supply leads.

The beast may come alive today :)

Thanks

HELP !
Board won't power up. I can access through through IPMI. When I click Power On I eventually (1o Seconds) get a clicking sound from my power supply.
I get a popup error " Performing power function failed, Please check the Feature connector cables.
LE5 = Green
LE6 = Red

OK , I really think I screwed up this time. When I was flashing my SAS to SATA I screwed up and only entered 8 numbers instead of 9 ( I only wrote down 8 numbers) I though I could go back and get the numbers and start over....No such luck :)
What can I do now ????

@Jeff Lamer, please try adding "0" as the ninth digit (or if that fails due to some check-summing keep trying with "1", etc.).

And please let us know how it went.

  1. Remove PXE boot option in BIOS.
  2. Are you using USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port on the motherboard?
  3. Any USB options in your BIOS you can toggle? Look for xHCI or XHCI.

I will complete 1 and 3 when I get home tonight.
Yes I do have both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 connected on the motherboard. I successfully used the USB port to reconfigure my SAS ports and also to run MEMTEST86.

Ok, I followed these instructions. It took a bit but I got PXE boot option off on LAN settings and disabled XHCI. I was able to get Freenas GUI up and running until I rebooted !! Now I'm back to square one
with this Error

When I go into the BIOS the boot menu doesn't show my SATADOM. Could it be that my SATADOM is powered from my power supply and not my Motherboard ? I did get it to load the Freenas a second time but upon reboot I'm back to the mountroot issue again.

I am confused...

Could you please repeat information about:
  • source of the initial FreeNAS installation
  • destination media for FreeNAS (the media FreeNAS would normally run on)
  • boot sequence in BIOS

Sorry bout that!
The initial source was iso on my computer that was virtually mounted to install
FreeNAS was/is installed on SATADOM . It the the only memory I have installed todate.
Boot sequence attached

I can't figure out the two different versions? It appears to be rebooting OK , But I am worried about future resets. It is currently using the (Default) Version.
How do I remove the second one? (Initial-Install) or is that normal.

Please do not remove (Initial-Install) !

That is an actual feature and the FreeNAS team is proud of it ! ! ! :D

In short, FreeNAS stores previous boot environments to allow for an easy rollback in case anything happens.

Long story is that you have to read the manual ;) http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas.html

I then followed the same procedure and it started up on the third try without any changes ??? What to do?

Is it plugged in to one of the Intel SATA ports (the white ones)? If not do so. Is it detected by the BIOS when it doesn't boot? Can you manually select from the boot menu option (F11 or F12 - can't remember which) when it doesn't boot?

If none of those options work and you haven't made a bunch of changes in the BIOS then I would look at n RMA for your DOM.
