I need to connect an iSCSI capable NAS to my FreeNas machine but the Web Gui from what I can see only allows setting the FreeNas box up as a Target rather than an Initiator as well. I will have to dig out some commands for FreeBSD to see if I can get them connected but would be much easier if there was a tab in the Gui for this purpose.

Agreed. It would be nice to be able to connect other iSCSI devices to a FreeNAS box in order to grow it's storage

I'm currently investigating alternatives, OpenFiler and E-Open apparently do it but I havn't had a good chance to look at them yet.

Yeah, would be nice to have iSCSI initiator support. I have a couple of HP P4500 (iSCSI targets) that I want to use for SMB and NFS sharing thru FreeNAS. Got it working but doesn't survive a reboot. Would be nice to have that included in FreeNAS

Hi oborowsk, could you share how you got it to connect to an iscsi device? I'd be interested to know.

This will be possible from the command line starting in 8.2 with a GUI coming at a later date: NOTE: beginning with 8.2, FreeNAS™ contains iscontro (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=iscontrol). This utility allows the FreeNAS™ system to act as an initiator (rather than a target) and must be run from the command line. If you create a custom configuration for iscontrol, back it up as it will not survive a reboot of the system.
