Hi, im thinking of building a cheap nas using TrueNAS Core or probably old FreeNAS build
the Motherboard that im using is Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo im thinking of using 2x4gb ddr3 ram and also using 2x2gb ddr2 ram
with Core 2 Quad q8400 and also 3x320gb Western Digital blue harddisk in raidz or raid5 configuration, and also another 320gb hdd for boot, is it still good enough for just a simple home nas? i dont think im gonna run plex or anything like that, probably just a simple pbx server with 5 users max.

You need at least 16gb min of RAM just to run TrueNAS.

Western Digital blue - (could be SMR) they will cause data corruption with ZFS.

basically more headaches then it worth.

Running DDR3 and DDR2 at the same time? That won't work. You also cannot use hardware RAID with ZFS.
You could probably make it work with 8GB of RAM... but really, that's ancient hardware.
