Hi, I've been browsing the forum for a few days now and have decided to attempt my first NAS build and chosen FreeNAS due to the support available with this forum. I've started my hardware purchases following the recommendations I've found here which has taken much of the guesswork out of this build. Thanks to all contributors I feel pretty confident this is something I can do at a considerable savings over the other consumer grade systems I've looked at with a substantially more robust outcome.

Indeed sir. Welcome.

I always recommend playing with a make-believe FreeNAS in VMWare Player. There, you can create pools, simulate failed disks, etc., before you have it on considerably slower actual hardware.

Suggest also you stick with FreeNAS 9.10.
